My initial idea for my EDIT 7500 involves a group of 4th and 5th grade students at Long Branch Elementary School. I've already identified the teacher, Mrs. Bonnie, who teaches the resource and gifted classes. I've spoken with about working with her class and she is very willing to assist. She suggested a topic, insects. My initial thoughts involve working with students and doing something with insects and getting them to use Apple's iLife software, which includes iMovie, iTunes, iPhoto, iDVD, Garageband, and iWeb. I'm thinking I will most likely get the students to do some internet research and make an iMovie and share with the rest of the school.
I'm open to suggestions and any recommendations from my blogging buddies.

I think his sounds like an excellent project. It's a subject which is interesting and motivational to students in the targeted age group and it will be fun to develop instructional activities for a unit of this type.
One suggestion that comes to mind involves the NatureMapping program that I discussed in the breakout room Tuesday night. The url for this site is:

You can look on the website and see if it includes any activities that you could use in the implementation of your project. At the very least, you can probably use it as a resource.
I'll look for my ideas over the next few days.
I think "THIS" sounds like an excellent project, not "HIS".
And the last sentence should say, "I'll look for MORE ideas over the next few days."
Sorry!
Kids love insects! First of all, you've selected something that should grab students' attention from the get go. Although I haven't used Apple iLife myself, I do hear it's pretty cool. With as resourceful as kids are at that age, and having been exposed to research methods in the third grade, students of that age (4th and 5th grade) should be ready and willing to do internet-based research, as well. It sounds like it will be a great project. Good luck!
Insects are very interesting because of the wide variety. Your students should be able to find one they will get excited about and that is suited to their personality, whether it is a mellow insect or one with a vicious reputation! Some even surprise you. My students find it hard to believe that I was once bitten by a ladybug… I’ve never trusted one since that day about 40 years ago! The Apple Learning Interchange website had several iLife curricular projects that you can get ideas from. I have used iMovie a lot to compile and edit videos for school, but I have never really used iPhoto, Garageband, and iWeb. My use of iDVD is limited. I need to learn more about the whole package and look forward to learning how you will use them with your students.
